Can a Sibling Receive Social Security Benefits from a Siblingā€™s Work Record?

hey marc! Nov 22, 2021

Do you know of any situation where a sibling can receive a payment off their siblings work record?  For example, if sibling A is providing 50% or more for siblings B support?  Can sibling B file a claim for a benefit based on sibling A’s work record?

There are no benefits under Social Security to draw off a sibling. Under current Social Security rules, there are no provisions that allow one sibling to receive Social Security benefits based on another sibling’s work record. Social Security benefits are generally designed to provide financial support to specific family members, such as a spouse, children, or dependent parents, based on a worker's earnings history.
